Diagnostic Evaluation

Evaluations will always fit the presenting problems and concerns. Clinical interviewing and history taking are important parts of this process. Psychological and neuropsychological assessments are not standard procedure for every patient; rather they will be tailored to specific referral and diagnostic questions. As the history and evaluation process unfolds and hypotheses are developed, certain diagnostic testing may be helpful in describing strengths and weaknesses and in making a differential diagnosis. The recommendation for the assessments and their fees will be discussed thoroughly with each parent and/or patient so that an informed decision can be made about his/her care. If this type of assessment is requested for forensic (court related) purposes, it must be clearly indicated and the specific request must be discussed with Dr. Barnard before any evaluations or assessments will be initiated.
